It's About The Music

… ABOUT …

Fin Johnston, composer, arranger, producer, keyboardist, bassist, and vocalist, was influenced in his teens by such artists as The Crusaders, Edgar Winter, and Herbie Hancock.

In 1979, at the age of twenty-three, he moved from the Chicago area to Los Angeles to pursue his musical career.  Since then, Fin’s work has included film, videos, television commercials and records, in addition to numerous concerts, club dates, and sessions.

He has written and performed music and special effects for several t.v. and radio spots including The Gap, Coors Light, Volkswagen and others.  He enjoys the challenge of spontaneous, creative writing as well as the high pressure and time constraints common to this end of the business.

In 1987, he joined forces with sax man Bruce Escovitz to form Windfall, a jazz/fusion quintet.  The group performed at some of the more popular clubs on L.A.’s west side, including The Overland Cafe, At My Place, and Bon Appetite.  They released their debut album in 1988.  Fin played Keyboards, Bass, composed two songs and co-produced this first effort.

From 1990 to current Fin has been performing with Tommy Walker and the C.A. Worship Band of Los Angeles doing Worship Evangelism in the Phillipines, Japan, Singapore, Central America, Africa and the Continental U.S.

In 1994, Fin began touring with Gospel recording artist, Bryan Duncan.  That summer, the Slow Revival Tour took them via tour bus across the continental U.S. with a base in Nashville.  Continuing to do spot dates throughout the year,  in 1995, the group went to Europe and performed on a live tv show in Holland.

Fin was employed by Maranatha! Music from1997-99 as a keyboardist/musical director for Promise Keepers, Luis Palau Crusades,  and occasional Harvest Crusade dates in So. California.

In 1999-2004, Fin played bass and keyboards on "The Unexpected" a CD by Loren Johnson, as well as co-producing and playing keyboards on "To Be Known", a CD by Stacey Stanley. He also played bass and keyboards on "Waiting" a CD by 'By Faith'.

In 2000-2005, he was keyboardist for Cartaya and The Enclave, an L.A. based Latin/funk band featuring bassist, Oscar Cartaya. They performed at local jazz clubs like The Baked Potato and La Ve Le..  They also recorded "My Music,My Friends,My Time" in 2004.

In 2003, Fin released his first solo CD entitled "Living In The Sonshine". He wrote, played keyboards, bass, guitar as well as vocals on it. He also programmed all the drums and percussion.
More recently he finished building a recording studio/production facility at his residence. His first project was to produce a CD for Christian recording artist, Tommy Walker entitled "Heal Our Land". It was recorded live in Zambia on the outskirts of Ndola with a 300 member volunteer African choir.

Fin continues writing/recording music for TV and radio as well as producing independent artists..
