Fin Johnston, composer,
arranger,
producer, keyboardist, bassist, and vocalist, was influenced in his
teens by such artists as The Crusaders, Edgar Winter, and Herbie
Hancock.
In 1979, at the age
of
twenty-three, he moved from the Chicago area to Los Angeles to pursue
his musical career. Since then, Fin’s work has
included
film, videos, television commercials and records, in addition to
numerous concerts, club dates, and sessions.
He has written and
performed music
and special effects for several t.v. and radio spots including The Gap,
Coors Light, Volkswagen and others. He enjoys the challenge
of
spontaneous, creative writing as well as the high pressure and time
constraints common to this end of the business.
In 1987, he joined
forces with sax
man Bruce Escovitz to form Windfall, a jazz/fusion quintet.
The
group performed at some of the more popular clubs on L.A.’s
west
side, including The Overland Cafe, At My Place, and Bon
Appetite.
They released their debut album in 1988. Fin played
Keyboards,
Bass, composed two songs and co-produced this first effort.
From 1990 to current
Fin has been
performing with Tommy Walker and the C.A. Worship Band of Los Angeles
doing Worship Evangelism in the Phillipines, Japan, Singapore, Central
America, Africa and the Continental U.S.
In 1994, Fin began
touring with
Gospel recording artist, Bryan Duncan. That summer, the Slow
Revival Tour took them via tour bus across the continental U.S. with a
base in Nashville. Continuing to do spot dates throughout the
year, in 1995, the group went to Europe and performed on a
live
tv show in Holland.
Fin was employed by
Maranatha!
Music from1997-99 as a keyboardist/musical director for Promise
Keepers, Luis Palau Crusades, and occasional Harvest Crusade
dates in So. California.
In 1999-2004, Fin
played bass and
keyboards on "The Unexpected" a CD by Loren Johnson, as well as
co-producing and playing keyboards on "To Be Known", a CD by Stacey
Stanley. He also played bass and keyboards on "Waiting" a CD by 'By
Faith'.
In 2000-2005, he was
keyboardist
for Cartaya and The Enclave, an L.A. based Latin/funk band featuring
bassist, Oscar Cartaya. They performed at local jazz clubs like The
Baked Potato and La Ve Le.. They also recorded "My Music,My
Friends,My Time" in 2004.
In 2003, Fin released
his first
solo CD entitled "Living In The Sonshine". He wrote, played keyboards,
bass, guitar as well as vocals on it. He also programmed all the drums
and percussion.
More recently he
finished building
a recording studio/production facility at his residence. His first
project was to produce a CD for Christian recording artist, Tommy
Walker entitled
"Heal Our Land". It was recorded live in Zambia on the outskirts of
Ndola with a 300 member volunteer African choir.
Fin continues
writing/recording
music for TV and radio as well as producing independent artists..
